Azure Migrate is a powerful platform that simplifies the process of migrating, modernizing, and optimizing your infrastructure, data, and applications for Azure. This comprehensive service provides a unified portal to streamline your entire cloud migration journey.

Unified Migration Platform

Azure Migrate offers a centralized hub where you can start, run, and track your migration to Azure. It provides a range of assessment and migration tools, including Azure Migrate: Discovery and Assessment, and Migration and Modernization. These tools work seamlessly with other Azure services and third-party independent software vendor (ISV) offerings, expanding the scope of supported use cases.

Comprehensive Capabilities

Azure Migrate allows you to assess, migrate, and modernize a wide range of on-premises resources:

  • Servers, Databases, and Web Apps: Assess and migrate on-premises servers, including web apps and SQL Server instances, to Azure.
  • Databases: Assess on-premises SQL Server instances and databases, and migrate them to Azure SQL VMs, Azure SQL Managed Instances, or Azure SQL Database.
  • Web Applications: Assess on-premises web applications and migrate them to Azure App Service and Azure Kubernetes Service.
  • Virtual Desktops: Assess your on-premises virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and migrate it to Azure Virtual Desktop.
  • Data: Migrate large amounts of offline data to Azure quickly and cost-effectively using Azure Data Box products.

Integrated Tools and ISV Integrations

The Azure Migrate hub includes a range of built-in tools, such as Azure Migrate: Discovery and Assessment, Migration and Modernization, Data Migration Assistant, Azure Database Migration Service, and Azure App Service Migration Assistant. Additionally, Azure Migrate integrates with various ISV offerings, including Carbonite, Cloudamize, CloudSphere, Corent Technology, Device42, Lakeside, RackWare, Turbonomic, UnifyCloud, and Zerto, providing even more options for assessment and migration.

Seamless Migration Capabilities

Azure Migrate’s Discovery and Assessment tool uses a lightweight appliance to discover on-premises servers running on VMware, Hyper-V, and physical environments, and assess their readiness for migration to Azure. The Migration and Modernization tool then helps you migrate these servers to Azure, using agentless or agent-based migration methods.

Whether you’re migrating VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, physical servers, or public cloud VMs, Azure Migrate has you covered. It also supports the migration of on-premises web apps hosted on Windows OS in a VMware environment to Azure App Service.

Versioning and Upgrades

Azure Migrate has two versions: the current version and the previous (classic) version. The current version provides the full range of migration capabilities, while the classic version only supports the assessment of on-premises VMware servers. The classic version will be retired in February 2024, so it’s important to plan your migration to the current version to take advantage of the latest features and capabilities.
